A presidential aspirant in the 2019 election and retired Professor of Foreign Languages, Remi Sonaiya, has described the posthumous award given to late Chief Moshood Abiola as a confirmation that there was a travesty of justice over June 12.
On her Twitter handle, @oluremisonaiya, she said, “This posthumous honour done to MKO Abiola means that the Nigerian government at the highest level now acknowledges that there was a travesty of justice over June 12.
She however asked: “Now that the victim is finally getting ‘justice,’ what happens to the perpetrator of the injustice?”
President Buhari had on Wednesday, in a move that caught many political watchers sleeping, declared June 12, the true Democracy Day for Nigeria.
He also announced the award of the nation’s highest honour, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, on the acclaimed winner of the June elections , Abiola.
Her tweet drew varied reactions from her followers.

While some applauded the move as a step in the right direction, others described it as being politically motivated.

Precious o. @preciouso tweeted in response, “it’s obvious the move is not justice, if not the perpetrators would be brought to book as well. Seems like a rushed decision to garner diminishing popularity.”
dnurse@chykablessed tweeted a contribution saying: “they should as well pay all his posthumous entitlements. That’s justice.”
Pat. Adeyanju@angell0077 in his own tweet said, “Buhari was in support of such injustice done to Abiola then by Abacha, an elder statesman then, he never said a word or appealed for Abiola’s release. This move by Buhari is to regain lost ground and score cheap political score in the South.”
