Israel announces interception of drone from Syria

Israel’s military on Wednesday announced the interception of a drone approaching its disputed border with Syria.

“The drone from Syria was intercepted by a Patriot battery, after defence systems identified the threat and followed it,’’ the military said in a statement.

The missile launch triggered sirens and fear in the Israel-annexed Golan Heights and the regional council of the Jordan Valley.

The identification of the launchers of the drone was not disclosed.

However, the military warned that it would “not allow violation of Israel’s aerial sovereignty and will act against any attempt to harm Israeli citizens.”

A similar incident occurred on June 24, when a Patriot missile was launched at a drone from Syria, before the drone retreated from the border without being intercepted. (Xinhua/NAN)
