No fewer than two people died in Jos, Plateau State, following the crisis that erupted on Thursday following the tension in the South East of the country.
This was made known on Friday by the governor of the state, Simon Lalong of Plateau State.
Speaking at a meeting with religious and traditional leaders at Government House over the crisis, the governor disclosed that two people died while some sustained different degrees of injuries.
He expressed sympathy with the victims of the crisis and their families.
The meeting with the traditional and religious leaders was a part of the efforts of the government to bring an end to the tension in the state.
On Thursday, there was pandemonium in Jos as news spread that some people were planning to launch a reprisal attack on the Igbo in the state.
The attack, it was gathered, was being planned to retaliate the one said to be targeted towards the Hausa in the South East during the week.
Assuring security of lives and property, the governors said, “We will ensure maximum security measures in all parts of the state to ensure that no citizen is harmed. As I speak with you, similar meetings are ongoing in all our local government councils.”
Already, Friday morning, Governor Lalong declared a dusk to dawn curfew.
He warned hoodlums who might want to take advantage of the anxiety in the state to cause mayhem to think twice as they would be dealt with.
He also called on traditional and religious leaders to ensure peace and report any development capable of causing crisis to the appropriate authorities.
He assured the people of the state to be law abiding and go about their businesses without any fear of insecurity.
