As Nigerians roll out drums to celebrate the country’s  57th independence anniversary, the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, and his Edo State counterpart, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, have called for concerted efforts to strengthen the bond of unity in the country.

At a joint press briefing on Saturday after a breakfast meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, the two governors stated that there was a lot to celebrate as a country affirming that the country’s unity could not be compromised.

Said Okowa:  “There is strength in unity; as a nation, we should talk about how to work together and stay on a common path on how to develop Nigeria, we should partner with one another.”

Speaking on the essence of the visit, the governor who was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Dame Edith, said, “Delta and Edo states are brothers, we came to Benin City for a ceremony, and we decided to see my brother, the governor; we discussed how to partner to bring development to our  people, we believe there is need for us to meet more often.”

Governor Obaseki also spoke in the same vein:  “Delta and Edo states are neighbours, we share a lot of things of common interest. As we celebrate independence, we should work to make our nation better.”

It would be recalled that Delta and Edo were carved out of the defunct Bendel State on August 27, 1991.
