The Imo State House of Assembly has not made any meaningful contribution towards governance in the state since its inauguration in 2015.
Prof. Jachimike Adiele of Novena University, Kwale, made this assertion while speaking exclusively to The Next Edition in Owerri.
According to him, on a scale of 10 to 100, the Imo State House of Assembly as is presently constituted scores 12% and this is because “they have not done anything of significance in the life of the present administration.”
He said they could not say that they had influenced governance in anyway.
“Nothing has happened in the state to which one can point and say, ‘if not for the House of Assembly this would not have happened or this happened because of the House of Assembly,’” he said.
He disclosed that the State Assembly gave governor Okorocha a budget for four years at a go in the first term.
He asked: “When have you ever seen such a thing happen?”

The Professor of Educational Management bluntly stated that those in the present Assembly were not representatives of the people as they were not voted in by them.
His words: “Those people are not our representatives because we didn’t vote for them. They got in there because the system allowed them. They know and that’s why they are not accountable to us. Most of the people in Imo State House of Assembly are from Owerri zone but they are not the choice of the people.”
Adiele noted that the people did not count on the legislators and neither did they count on the people.
Speaking on who occupies the Government House in Imo State come 2019, he said: “It’s not just that we want somebody from Owerri zone but we want some quality of human being. Somebody with pedigree, somebody who is prepared and in politics for service; somebody who with or without politics can self actualise and thankfully, Owerri zone happens to have such people.”
According to him given the potentials in Imo, it should have been one of the best states in the country but due to the bad choices the people have made in times past in terms of who leads the state, it hasn’t been able to achieve this noble height.
