Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, said on Thursday that he met a debt of over N50 billion in salary arrears left by the previous administrations.
Bello made the disclosure in state-wide broadcast to mark the nation’s 60th independence anniversary.
According to him, the enormity of the debts have impeded his government’s development plans for the state, though he said most of the debts have been cleared.
He however, vowed that those responsible for the debts will answer to their actions.
“To give you an idea of the huge scale of this problem, let me inform you that this administration has had to clear over N50bn in salary obligations inherited from previous administrations.

“The bulk of that money was borrowed and along with our other debt obligations continues to impede our ability to free up funds for infrastructural and other development as we would like,” Bello said.
