Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Godswill Akpabio, has urged politicians to consider the plight of the less-privileged and always strive to better their living conditions instead of accumulating wealth for themselves.

Akpabio made the call over the weekend when he inaugurated constituency projects he had executed at Obot Akara, Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas of his senatorial district.

“When God gives you the opportunity to serve, do not move your pocket forward, but move your community forward. That is why I must do my best to ensure that the 10 local government areas in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District benefit from my constituency projects,” he said.

Among the projects he commissioned were school blocks, solar powered water projects, market stalls and a civic center.

At the occasions, the people of the different communities rolled out drums to celebrate Akpabio for the provisions meant to improve their living standards.

The Senator who had flagged off the inauguration of his constituency projects last week in ikono, Ini, Ikot Ekpene and Abak, continued the exercise at the weekend with the commissioning of a three classroom block he built at the FIDA Secondary Commercial School, Urua Offiong Etor Udo in Obot Akara Local Government Area.

The Senator thereafter moved to Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, where he inaugurated a fully furnished three-classroom block at Government School, Uruk Ata Ikot Ekpau, Utu Etim Ekpo.

Akpabio also unveiled a solar-powered 3.5 km radius reticulated water project in Utu Idung Akpan Udom Village.

The community shares same boundary with two Local Government Areas of Etim Ekpo and Ika.

The water serves seven communities.

20 open market stalls in Urua Mboho Annang were also inaugurated.

While in Oruk Anam, Senator Akpabio commissioned a three kilometer radius, solar powered water project in Ikot Ekpuk and also inspected the ultra-modern civic centre he built in memory of the late former Senator and Governor of the old Cross River State, Chief Donald Dick Etiebet also in Ikot Ekpuk.

He promised to restore public power supply to the community within the next one month.

Inaugurating the facilities, Senator Akpabio hailed President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, for facilitating the constituency projects.

He said the projects were located in the benefitting communities in response to the yearnings of the people.

He promised to use his position in the National Assembly to attract more people-oriented projects to the ten local government areas in the senatorial district.

The Senator thanked the people for the confidence reposed on him as their representative at the National Assembly.

He pledged to double his efforts in bringing succour to his constituents.

He advised the benefitting communities to guard the facilities against vandals and advised youth of the senatorial district not to engage in social vices.

“Projects are located where the people need the projects. This should serve as a reminder to those who are aspiring to be Senators in the future that you must bring something home any time you have the opportunity to serve your people,” Akpabio said.

Welcoming the Senator to Obot Akara, chairman of the local government council, Mr. Anietie Udo Udo, and the Member, House of Assembly from the area, Idongesit Ntekpere, described Akpabio as a performing legislator whose representation had impacted positively on the people of the Senatorial District.

This was echoed by the Chairmen of Etim Ekpo, Udeme Eduo and Oruk Anam, Prince Ubong Idiong, who pledged the support of the people for his return to the Senate.
