Game of Thrones came to an end on Sunday (Monday morning Nigerian Time), after a decade and eight seasons and the Internet is still buzzing.
The show has garnered so much attention over the years and won a lot of Emmy awards. The last season was especially important because fans wanted to know who will end up ruling the seven kingdoms that has been in contention pretty much the whole series. Even more so as fans had to wait two years for the final season to air.
There were a lot of anticipation and the theories went wild with everyone predicting what would happen.
However, once the show started airing, fans began to express their dissatisfaction with how the episodes were written. The show, which is based on the book, ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ by George Raymond Richard Martin fondly referred to as GRRM was adapted for TV series and was written by David Benioff and Daniel Brett Weiss.
The pair referred to as ‘D & D’ on social media got their fair share of the fans displeasure throughout the final season. Some people chucked what they term as bad scripting to the fact that the books actually ended in season five and that D&D had to write what came after based on what GRRM wrote. George R. R. Martin himself has spoken out and claims he is fine with how the show ended.
Nigerians of all classes were not left out in the conversation.
Nollywood film maker/ director, Kemi Adetiba, who is an avid fan of the show based on her tweets was infuriated all season long.

Media personality Toke Makinwa’s vlog for the week released on Wednesday May 22, three days after the finale was titled ‘The end of Game of Thrones .. I can’t deal.’ In the almost seven minutes video, she talked about how she was upset and how the show emotionally abused her. All in good fun, but just to show how invested she was in it.
“I’m so upset. I’m very very upset. Game of Thrones this relationship for the past 10 years you’ve emotionally abused me, you’ve tormented me, you made me question my existence. I have cried, I have laughed, you’ve made me hopeful. I’ve waited, I’ve literally sat at the edge of my seat only for you to now finally gave us this last season.”
She goes on to express her opinion on why the show had to end but questioned why they had to end it the way they did.
Japhet Omojuwa also chimed in on one of the episodes and all season long. He had things to say about the show as well.
“Cersei’s denouement was boring. I expected much more. “Please don’t let me die. Please don’t let me die” and then rubbles. She should have died in the hands of Arya, Jon Snow or even the murderer Daenerys looking into her eyes before Dracarysing her.” He tweeted on episode five when Queen Cersei died.
The internet went wild after the last episode aired when Bran Stark was eventually crowned King of what was now six kingdoms since Sansa, his sister, told him The North (Winterfell and its environs ) wanted to be independent.
Despite the writing that has them displeased, fans had held out hope that the last episode will tie everything up.

Even Femi-Fani Kayode’s wife waded in on the conversation on Twitter. His husband is a huge fan and he also said a lot on the show.

He appears to be obsessed with her and keeps telling anyone that cares to listen that what Jon did to her was hideous and that she should have been treated with love, understanding and compassion with a view to reforming her rather than being murdered. Will someone please tell him that I am the real Queen and only Khaleesi in his life and that Game of Thrones is FICTION?”

He even tied in the way fans were displeased with the ending with politics.

More fans did not like it and continued to complain. A petition was even circulated online asking fans to sign demanding that HBO give them a deserving finale season.
So, Brienne really caressed Jaime’s page before closing it saying goodbye to him forever, while “I’m hers and she’s mine” is playing in the background, I– I have to cry, these two deserved so much better.

Disappointed or not, the fact remains that the show was an amazing show. Game of Thrones took everyone to a fictional kingdom and has us all enthralled by it. From White Walkers to Dragons and Wildings, fans soaked it all up. It will remain one for the book in TV history for all time.
