The immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, is dead.
He died on Friday night.
His death was by his successor, Myele Kari, via a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Friday night.
He described the deceased as a brother, friend and mentor, praying Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings.
The tweet read: “My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.”

Baru was appointed NNPC GMD by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016, a position he held up until 2019.
According to Wikipedia, Baru was born in July 1959.
He was an engineer, oil marketer and the 18th Group Managing Director of the Nigeria’s state oil firm, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Before his appointment as the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Baru served as the Group General Manager (GGM) of National Petroleum Investment Management Services.
Late Baru was a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
