Mr. Ben Egbuna, a onetime Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), was on Thursday laid to rest at his country home in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra.

Egbuna, 71, who died on Jan. 30, was committed to Mother Earth amidst tributes by kinsmen, friends, professional colleagues and other sympathizers from within and outside the state.

The dignitaries  included Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, represented by the First Female Professor of Mass Communication, Prof. Stella Okunna.

Others were the Director-General of FRCN, Mallam Mansiu Lihman represented by the Enugu Zonal Director FRCN, Pastor Emma Inegbidom, veteran broadcasters and top echelons in the media.

In a tribute, the Director General FRCN, Lihman, said that Egbuna made positive impact and impressive transformation within few years as the corporation DG.

The Director General of the Voice of  Nigeria, (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, described the deceased as a veteran broadcaster and uncommon charitable person who designed the broadcast line of VON.

Dr. Uche Nworah, Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, described the death of Egbuna, who was his uncle, as ‘unfortunate’.

“He was a role model and a source of inspiration to him; I pray God to grant him eternal rest,” he said.

Earlier in a homily, Rev. Fr. Paul Dim-Ude of St. Michael’s Parish Nkpologwu, reminded the people that it was appointed unto all mortals once to die after which judgment followed.

Dim-Ude described death as a divine journey and judgments in which many were called but few were chosen.

He  implored the family to live with perfect examples of the deceased and prayed for the eternal repose of his soul.

The wife of the deceased, Beatrice, said she had lost her faithful life partner and trusted God to give her the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

She promised to uphold the true virtues that her husband left behind while describing him as a trustworthy husband with God’s passion.

The first son, Mr. Uche Egbuna, who spoke on behalf of the family, said that his late father was an outstanding man of truth and a core disciplinarian who set the platform for them to strive for the best.

He thanked those who gave his father a befitting burial, and promised to work in the footprint of his late father and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the burial witnessed cultural dance by Oganiru age grade where Egbuna belonged and other different age grades and masquerades. (NAN)
