President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted a list of 41 non-career ambassadors-designate to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
Among the list are two distinguished senior Editors Mr. Debo Adesina, Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian newspapers, representing Oyo State and a former Editor of Thisday, Mr. Oma Djebah (Delta).
He also nominated Suleiman Sani (FCT) as a career ambassador-designate. His nomination comes about three weeks after the Senate confirmed 42 career ambassadors nominated by the president.
Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read on the floor on Wednesday by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
The letter reads: “In accordance to Section 171(1)(2)(c) and sub-section 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Suleiman Sani as career Ambassador-designate for the FCT.”
In a separate letter, the President also requested the upper chamber to confirm the appointment of 41 Non-Career Ambassador-designate.
