A former Commissioner for Information and Culture in Akwa Ibom, Dr. Jackson Dan Etuk, is dead.

Etuk, who served during the tenures of Maj-Gen. Godwin Abbe (rtd) and Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga (1990 – 1992), died recently at the age of 70.

During his stint at the helm of the information sector, the AKBC transmission station at Ntak Inyang was established and commissioned while the corporate headquarters of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation was also constructed under his watch.

Etuk, a retired lecturer at the University of Uyo, former director of the defunct Mercantile Bank, a school proprietor and a management consultant, was a political scientist with specialisation in Public Administration.

The late academic had a very brilliant educational background.

He was a one-time Rockefeller Research Scholar at the University of Ibadan and a Flinders University of South Australia Research Scholar where he obtained his Ph.D in 1978.

Etuk has been described by many as a very disciplined, hardworking, honest, and generous person who took active part in community development and sponsored many indigent children in schools.

A release by his eldest son, Engr. Ekemini Jackson Etuk, indicates that his remains will be committed to mother earth on Saturday October 21, 2017 in his home town, Usung Inyang, Eket local government area after a funeral service at Q.I.C Primary School, Eket-Oron Road.

He is survived by wife – Dr (Mrs) Esther Etuk, a retired Permanent Secretary, three sons – Ekemini, Dan and Utomobong, and numerous relations.
