Flooding: Osinbajo in Benue to assess amount of destruction

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday led a federal government delegation to Benue State to assess the amount of devastation caused by flooding in the state.

On August 27, flooding in Makurdi and some other communities left over 100,000 people homeless.

Along with Osinbajo were the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, and Minister of Power, Works and Housing,  Babatunde Fashola.

The team is expected to visit the camp where those affected by the flooding are accommodated.

The visit is to enable the vice president have a good assessment of the situation of the victims.

The team was received by the governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, at the Makurdi airstrip.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, last week directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to quickly support the victims of flooding in Benue State.

He said the agency should provide humanitarian services needed for their comfort.

Also, the Nigeria Air Force has given its support, providing health services among other things.
