Sixteen containerized shops were destroyed by the fire which broke out at Under Bridge Market, Apongbon, Lagos, on Sunday.
The Director General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr. Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu said the fire started from one of the containerised stores at the market.
He noted that though the firefighting operations had been concluded, recovery and post fire assessment was ongoing.
Also speaking on the incident, acting Head of the Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye said the fire caused severe damage to three stores while eight others were slightly affected.
She also noted that the fire which began at about 10a.m was put out by the joint Sari-Iganmu Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, LASEMA and the Police.”

Adeseye explained that the fire affected 11 containerised stores used to store catering materials, accessories and other groceries.
She said the section of the market which caught fire was not connected to electricity and nobody was believed to have been around when the fire started.
The shops, she said, were closed for Sunday break.
Mrs. Adeseye pointed out that “the immediate cause of the fire could be linked to heat generated from inappropriate stacking of goods.”
Goods worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno.
