The Federal Government on Sunday brought back 170 volunteers from Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.
The returnees comprising various professionals landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos on board a local airline, Azman Air.
The professionals in different fields had been in the three East African countries under the Technical Aid Corps scheme (TAC), a federal agency responsible for sharing Nigeria’s know-how and expertise with other African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
The scheme draws from a large pool of Nigeria’s well-trained manpower to provide volunteers requested by beneficiary countries.

The returnees, who tested negative for COVID-19 before departure, are expected to self-isolate for 14 days in line with the protocols stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
They are also expected to undergo another test later this week.
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of TAC, Dr Pius Osunyikanmi, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said “has been concerned about the plight of the volunteers stranded in the East African countries as a result of the global lockdown,” for the successful evacuation.
