The Benue State Police Command said it arrested 26 suspects for kidnap, robbery and theft cases and recovered 205 live ammunition, one vehicle and nine motorcycles during the festive period.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Mukaddas disclosed this at the Command’s Headquarters in Makurdi while briefing newsmen about activities of the just concluded Christmas and New-Year celebrations.
Mukaddas said the Command worked tirelessly to ensure that the celebration was hitch free as evident in the peaceful celebration that was witnessed during the period.
According to him, all routes and possible black spots were identified and manned by police officers, both foot and vehicular patrols were intensified during the period leading to the arrests and other successes achieved.
Giving a breakdown of some of the cases, the Commissioner said “on 12/12/2019 at about 1130hrs, a complaint was received at ‘A’ Police Division station that an unknown person who introduced himself as “Gana boy” threatened to kidnap and kill the complainant if he doesn’t send money to him.

“Investigation led to the arrest of one Hon. Aondona Gbakaan, Akesa Sughnen and Terkimbir Oljime all ‘m’ of Konshisha Street, Makurdi who collected the sum of N200,000 as a ransom. Suspects confessed to the crime.”
“On 27/12/2019 at about 1830hrs, Police Operatives on stop and search at Tyomu village, Gboko Road, Makurdi, intercepted a red Toyota Corrola vehicle conveying passengers and their belongings. While searching the vehicle, 200 live ammunition were recovered from one Usman Saleh and Ibrahim Usman all ‘m’ of Doma and Awe Local Government in Nasarawa State. The duo confessed to be owners of the ammunition. Investigation is still in progress.”
Other suspects include Yogbo Terhile, Samuel Iorbee, Tyoor Aondowase, Msughue kpechir, Ianna Paul, Aondowase Avishi, Terkimbir Bai and Terfa, Uba Doosuur, Ochola Sunday, Ushahemba Megai, Ushahemba Awua, Aondoseer Asor and Tersor Gbamwuan among others.
The CP thanked the people of Benue State for their cooperation and peaceful conduct during the Christmas and New year celebrations and solicited their continous cooperation towards securing the state.
The police boss who pledged the commitment of his men to security of lives and property in the state also appreciated the Benue State Government, Traditional/Religious Leaders, youth leaders, the press and all other Stakeholders who made their job in the state easier.
