Miss Naomi Awodi, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Lagos State, who was involved in a motor accident along Ajah – Epe Road last Monday, is responding to treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The NYSC team led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Sunday Aroni, which included a family member of the corps member, who visited the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital where Miss Awodi was being kept on Thursday, expressed satisfaction with the progress being witnessed towards her full recovery.
Consultants at the CCU, who had been handling Miss Awodi’s treatment, assured the NYSC team and her family, that full attention was being given to her to ensure that she fully recovered.
Mr. Aroni, who spoke to newsmen after seeing Miss Awodi, a graduate of Library and Information Science, whose primary assignment was at the Augustine University, Epe, assured that the NYSC management was doing everything possible to ensure that she recovered.
He disclosed that the NYSC had already committed over N500, 000 to her treatment since last Monday when the accident occurred, adding that no amount was too much to ensure that she got the best of care as the agency had been taking corps welfare and health as top priority.
He, however, debunked information in the social media that the accident victim was unknown and that there was delay in her treatment, stressing that Miss Awodi was with her identity card at the time of the accident, and was taken to the hospital without delay, while her family was informed within one hour the accident occured.

He said that after the initial hospital, she was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, and then transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where there were enough experts and equipment to handle her case.
Mr. Aroni urged Nigerians to ensure that what they publish in social media were correct, instead of the falsehood being peddled on social media about the NYSC member.
Aroni said: “I caution the public on use and abuse of the social media. NYSC has lived up to expectation since the accident occurred. We have committed N500,000 so far to her case. We place top priority on the welfare of NYSC members.
“I have seen her. I have been assured by the consultants of the progress being made towards her recovery. We hope she will recover very soon.”
Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, in his remark, said that a lot of progress was being made in the treatment and towards the full recovery of the accident victim, assuring that the hospital had sufficient experts, including consultants, as well as equipment to handle such a critical situation.
He also urged Nigerians to use the social media with wisdom, stressing the need for information to be confirmed before publishing such to avoid peddling of falsehood as was the case with the accident of Miss Awodi.
