The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that it had no right to probe him until his tenure expires.
This is in reaction to the letter which Fayose said the anti-graft commission sent to him requesting that he should appear before it on September 20, 2018.
Fayose said he still enjoyed immunity, hence his decision as stated in a letter he had earlier written that he would show up on October 16 being the day after his tenure expires.
The warning is contained in a letter by the governor to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, dated Setpember 14 which was stamped received on September 18.

Fayose’s letter reads in part: “I acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 13th September requesting me to appear on 20th September, a date preceding the expiration of my tenure.
“As a responsible citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who currently enjoys immunity under Section 308 of the Constitution, it would amount to a breach of the Constitution which I swore to uphold if I appear in your office on any date earlier than 16 October 2018. If done otherwise, it will set a wrong precedent for the Constitutional Institution that I represent.
“I carefully chose that date being the next day after the expiration of my tenure upon which the immunity I enjoy will lapse to avoid any form of insinuation and was in good faith.”
The governor also berated the earlier claim that he might run away from the country to avoid being prosecuted.
