In an upcoming cultural event that promises to be truly remarkable, two state governors, AbduRahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, have confirmed their attendance at “Fajuyi,” a historical play that commemorates the life of the late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, former military governor of the old Western Region. This captivating production, brought to life by the Duke of Shomolu Foundation, is scheduled to take place in Lagos on November 5.
The event is also set to welcome Kayode Fayemi, the former Ondo governor, along with distinguished guests, including Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, Sen. Michael Opeyemi, and Amb. Thomas Ironsi. Additionally, prominent figures such as Mr. Donald Fajuyi, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi will grace the occasion with their presence.
The play, which had its initial staging in Ado-Ekiti, the birthplace of Fajuyi, drew attention and support from Governor Oyebanji, who proposed the establishment of a national monument in honor of Fajuyi’s memory. He also called for a posthumous national award to recognize the late soldier’s heroic contributions.
Governor Oyebanji passionately stated, “The Ado-Ekiti-born Fajuyi symbolized honor, integrity, and unparalleled loyalty. His legacy continues to shine brightly. As a state, we shall always honor his memory. Ekiti Kete will embrace Fajuyi’s legacy, emphasizing and embodying his values of courage and dedication wherever we go.”
