Mrs. Taiwo Oluga, representing Irewole/Ayiedaade/Isokan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Sunday, distributed motorcycles, grinding machines, money and other items to her constituents.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution of the items was part of her poverty alleviation and empowerment programmes.

Oluga, while distributing the items at Gbongan in Ayiedaade Local Government area of Osun, said that it was also part of her efforts at complementing the Federal Government in minimising and eradicating poverty in the country.

She said, “It is part of our efforts to ensure that our people enjoy the dividends of democracy and to support the Federal Government in bringing down poverty level.

“If you look at the socio-economic benefits of what we have done today and its multiplier effects on those that we have empowered, it will give them ample opportunity to fend for their families and make them self-reliant.

“And for those who will be using the tools in their stores, shops and markets, you can be sure that it will go a long way in reducing redundancy, depression and frustration among them.

“I want to see my federal constituency being out of poverty in the nearest future; but we cannot be saying it with mere words, we should assist them, especially the artisans. That is why we have included them in what we are doing today.

“This empowerment is not about political affiliations; it is across board. I believe by the time we do this repeatedly, our constituency, the state and the country at large will be out of poverty” she said.

The lawmaker, while advising the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously, also urged the leaders of the market women, who received the cash, to make it a revolving loan to empower those under them.

A cheque of N500,000 was given to each of the leaders of the market women (Iyalojas), while 75 motorcycles, 45 deep freezers, 15 hair dryers, 18 grinding machines and 15 sewing machines were also distributed by the lawmaker.
