The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has said there is nothing to show that the Federal Government is ready to conduct a free and fair governorship election in Ekiti State.
Secondus made this remark on Friday during the commissioning of some projects in Ekiti State.
The national chairman of the leading opposition party said if the government was ready to ensure free and fair elections in Ekiti and Osun states and during the 2019 general election, he should be in the forefront of the campaign for one man one vote.
According to a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi and made available to The Next Edition, Secondus warned that any attempt to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State would be a recipe for crisis.
“Let me remind the APC government that the political problem in the country in the Second Republic started with the election manipulations of the then ruling National Party of Nigeria, NPN, in the old Ondo State comprising of Ekiti State. Let us not witness a repeat,” he said.

He advised the APC government to take a cue from the gubernatorial primaries of PDP in the state and conduct the Ekiti election creditably.
“What the PDP did in the gubernatorial primaries in Ekiti is what is expected from a rebranded PDP where there would be no more impunity, no more imposition of candidates.
“Our advice to the President and his party is to behave like PDP when it lost, accept defeat and go home.”
The statement said that former President Goodluck Jonathan and four PDP governors – Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia; Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom; Nyesom Wike, Rivers and Ibrahim Dankwambo, Gombe, graced the occasion.
All the state governors spoke and eulogised the host, Governor Fayose, for doing much with meager resources.
Governor Fayose in his remarks assured the people of the state that the PDP candidate in the July 14 poll, Prof. Olusola Eleka, would not only win but would go further to do well and even better than him.
