Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, will today be issued with the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
This was made known by the INEC Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Taiwo Gbadegesin.
The event billed to hold at 11.00 a.m. will take place at the INEC headquarters in the state.
At the election which held on Saturday, Fayemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opponent, Professor Kolapo Olusola.
While Fayemi recorded 197,459 votes Olusola recorded 178, 121.
Fayemi will be inaugurated on October 16.
It would, however, be recalled that Olusola has vowed to challenge the victory of Fayemi.
He claimed that Fayemi and APC were aided by INEC and security agencies to perpetrate fraud in the electoral exercise.
A coalition made up of observers and civil society organisations which monitored the election has also said that it would make public the alleged fraud that characterized the exercise.
The group which condemned the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security forces during the election declared that the final result announced did not reflect the true outcome of the exercise.
The coalition which is headed by Haruna Farouk and Adachi Okoro made its position known in a statement it issued.
Said the group: “We have evidence of election malpractices where a particular party in connivance with security personnel went about inducing the electorate with cash and coercing them to snap the ballot papers in order to receive cash gifts from the agents of the party in question.
“The level of intimidation that occurred during the elections on Saturday was disheartening and shouldn’t be allowed to stand in modern-day Nigeria.”
