Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom, Nsima Ekere, has identified economic diversification as a viable strategy for boosting Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria’s economy.
Nsima said this during his campaign in Nsit Atai Local Government Area. He was joined at the rally by vice president Yemi Osinbajo.
He said his administration will focus on harnessing potentials in the agricultural sector in a bid to create wealth for the state.
Ekere suggested that Nigeria and states of the federation should realize that total dependence of petroleum portends danger for the economy.
According to him, one of the ways that his administration will reduce the dependence on petroleum is to venture into massive palm oil processing and exportation.
Hear him: “Our main target will be to create entrepreneurs. We will reactivate Akwa Palms Industry. We have 4,000 hectares of palm fruits in Esit Eket, 1,000 hectares in Ini and 1,000 in Oruk Anam.
“The world is moving away from crude oil. Currently a barrel of palm oil costs more than a barrel of crude oil. My vision is to make Akwa Ibom state the saviour of the Nigerian economy.”
Drumming support for all candidates of the APC, he called on the electorate to vote enmasse for the party.

He assured the Vice President of landslide victory for him (Osinbajo) and President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 presidential poll.
In his remarks, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the Federal Government remains committed to offering good governance as exemplified through ongoing reforms and economic policies.
Prof. Osinbajo implored Akwa Ibom people to be in sync with the Federal Government by electing an APC government.
“Akwa Ibom should not be in opposition. There is every reason why you should join the APC so that you can become part of the next level. It is time to join the train, and the train is moving very fast.
“All the young people who are here, the government of President Buhari is determined that you have jobs; not just jobs, but good jobs. Programmes like N-Power and school feeding is only the beginning”, he stated.
Also speaking, Senator Godswill Akpabio assured the presidency of victory in Akwa Ibom State, noting that the huge turnout at the rally indicated that “Akwa Ibom is APC.”
