The EFL Cup formally called Carabao Cup, third round clash kicked off on Tuesday with Colchester United taking on Tottenham at the JobServe Community Stadium.
Spurs came into the game on the back of a poor away run, and Mauricio Pochettino made changes to his squad for the game against the League Two opposition.
Tottenham had managed a win in their last seven games, and has let go of their last three away leads before the tie with Colchester.
Colchester, on the other hand, had lost once in their last ten games and added Spurs to their list of Premier League conquests after knocking out Crystal Palace in the second round.
The game ended goalless in normal regulation time but Tottenham was booted out of the competition on penalty, losing 3-4.
