There was crisis at the National Assembly on Monday following an assault on the Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi, by an official.

The incident occurred when Olujimi was on her way to a public hearing of the committee on petroleum (downstream)

It was gathered that the senator was angered that the official who is of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, rode in the same elevator with her.

She therefore allegedly ordered that her aide should slap the official.

The aide carried out the order, but instead of slapping the aide in return, the official reportedly slapped Olujimi.

Elevators in the complex are shared between the Senators and staff.

While one is for the senators, the other is for the staff, hence it was not expected that the official would ride in the same elevator with her.

It was gathered that when Olujimi got down from the elevator, she challenged the official but was shielded by his colleagues who were getting set to hold a meeting ahead of a planned strike.

The official was said to have refused to apologise, thus causing a rowdy session.

It was gathered that security officials took away the senator from the scene.

She later attended the public hearing she was heading to before the incident occurred.

She was said to have declared that she would take up the case with the National Assembly security.
