Osun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, and Special Adviser to Governor on Public Health, Olasiji Olamiju, on Wednesday appeared before the State House of Assembly to brief lawmakers on efforts made by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola administration in curtailing the spread of COVID-19.
The duo also told the lawmakers that the two COVID-19 deaths recorded in the state were Lagos returnees.
It would be recalled that the state government announced that two COVID-19 patients died in the state.
Both officials, who spoke on the state of isolation centres, number of deaths so far and current state of those in isolation centres, among others, said the two persons that died of COVID-19 in Ile-Ife and Ede returned from Lagos.
The commissioner said, “We need to shed more light on the two deaths recorded in Osun. The two Lagos returnees from both Ife and Ede had significant comorbidities. The former was severely ill while in Lagos and equally was diabetic and hypertensive.

“The latter was HIV positive before he contracted COVID-19. The patient in Ile-Ife died before the result of sample collected was released, never made it to our facility, while that of Ede died the day we went to announce the result and bring him to our facility.
“At no time did we say we collected a total of 167 samples at a time from any cluster of patients, but cumulative of samples collected over a period of three weeks.
“As at evening of April 27, 2020, 340 samples had been collected, out of which 34 were confirmed positive, 19 treated and discharged, two died, active cases now 13.”
Owoeye appreciated the state governor’s proactiveness against the spread of the virus, emphasising the need for people to be safety conscious by following laid down precautionary measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus.
He charged lawmakers not to trivialise matters associated with the community transmission, stressing that all hands must be on deck for COVID-19 to be checked.
