Markets and other non-essential businesses remain closed in Akwa, Anambra State in compliance with the stay at home directives to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the situation on Monday in Awka, reports that banks, chemists, pharmacy stores, patent medicine stores, fast food outlets were opened for businesses.
NAN also reports that major markets were also closed.
There was also hikes in transport fares by 100 per cent in major routes due to government order on them to reduce the number of passengers per row from the usual four to three for buses while shuttle buses were mandated to carry two persons per row.
Food items indicated similar increase in prices as Garri sold for N1, 500 per five liter tin as against its old price of between N500 and 600, while seven cup measure of the commodity sold at N400.

A tuber of small yam was sold for N350 as against its previous price of N200, while a bag of local variety rice goes for N14, 000 as against N10, 000 before the Coronavirus crisis.
However, prices of beans remained unchanged as a cup sold for N50.
Long queues were also witnessed at the gates of banks because only five customers were allowed into the banking hall at a time.
NAN recalls that the government had directed for a 14-day stay at home, while some residents called on the government for palliative measure to cushion the effect of the order.
