COVID-19: Imam Task Muslims On Personal Hygiene

The Chief IMAM of Benue State, Dr. Habib Suleiman has urged Muslims to increase personal hygiene as the best traditional practice to reduce the spread of Coronavirus infection.

Dr. Suleiman gave this advice in a sermon during Jumat prayers held at the Central Mosque in Wadata town of Makurdi, the Benue State Capital.

He sensitized the Muslim worshippers on the dangers of Coronavirus disease and the need to adhere strictly to the global best practices of hand washing, use of alcohol based sanitizers and social distancing.

He said the Central Mosque in Makurdi was making efforts to provide sanitizers at entry points to every Mosque in the state capital and pledged to work closely with other religious bodies in the state in the interest of all.

Meanwhile, Benue State Government has lamented the lack of compliance by religious organizations on the directive of the World Health Organization on social distancing as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Special Adviser to Benue State Governor on Religious Affairs, Blessed Onah stated this when he visited the Central Mosque in Makurdi to ensure compliance to government’s directive on Social distancing.

The Religious Adviser said the state government would involve security operatives to enforce the compliance if the situation remains unchanged in the coming days.
