The Osun State COVID-19 index case may have prevented further spread of the virus and saved the state government a lot of efforts trying to trace persons who might have had contact with the him.
The index, The NEXT EDITION gathered, drove himself from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, to Osun State isolation centre, where he reported himself.
Since a case of Coronavirus was recorded in Osun State, there was anxiety about the spread, but the interesting news was that the index case managed himself to arrive at the isolation facility provided by the state government without having any contact with anyone, including his family members.
A reliable source said the index case was a returnee from the United Kingdom, who arrived the country through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, last weekend.

According to the source, the man, suspected that he had contracted the virus, drove himself all the way from Lagos to Osogbo, the state capital, where his family was said to be residing.
It was gathered that rather than going home to his family, the index case contacted the phone numbers the state government provided and submitted himself at the Asubiaro State Hospital, where he had been managed.
The source said: “As a matter of fact, the man even locked himself inside the car until those who were to take him into isolation presented themselves and adequate precautions were taken to ensure there was no spread of the disease from him.”
The source, who disclosed this on Wednesday, maintained that there had been anxiety in the state over possible infection of other people since the news of first COVID-19 case broke out in the state.
Attempts to speak with Dr. Siji Olamiju, the state’s Special Adviser on Public Health, who is in charge of the Coronavirus campaigns in the state, proved abortive, as at the time of filing this report.
