A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday directed that a 57-year old nurse, Mrs Ahemen Jam, should be remanded in a correction centre for allegedly inflicting injuries on her house-help, Kpamor Jir.
The police charged the defendant, who lives behind ‘E’ Police Station in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue, with criminal conspiracy, force, assault and causing grievous hurt to Jir.
However, the Magistrate, Mrs Roseline Iyorshe, did not take her plea for want in jurisdiction.
Iyorshe adjourned the matter until May 15, 2023, for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Jonah Uletu, told the court that on March 24, a distress call was received at ‘E’ Division Police Station, Makurdi.
The caller was said to have informed the police that the defendant conspired with her son, Orngu Jam and beat their house-help up mercilessly giving her deep wounds on her buttocks.

The prosecutor said the police swung into action and took the victim to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where she has been receiving treatment.
Uletu informed the court that the defendant was arrested for committing the crime during police investigation while her son is still at large.
Uletu said further investigation revealed that the injuries were being inflicted on the child between March 17 and March 24 by daily beating with electric cable.
He further said the defendant who brought the child from Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue did not take her to any hospital for treatment but was still compelling her to be fetching water for her and her son to be using until a concerned neighbour discovered the wounds and reported to the police.
The prosecutor said that her offenses contravened sections 97, 266 and 248 of the Penal Code laws of Benue, 2004.
