A Karu Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered that an unemployed man, Francis Samuel, who was allegedly in possession of manhole cover be remanded in a correction centre.
Samuel is charged with being in possession of property suspected to be stolen.
The Judge, Mr. Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned the case until Oct. 26 for mention.
Mayana ordered that the defendant should be kept at the Keffi Correctional Centre, pending conclusion of investigation into the case.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr. Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 22.
The prosecutor, Mr. Olanrewaju Osho told the court that the complainant, Insp John Ishaga attached to Garki Police station reported the matter.
He said that the defendant was arrested around Area III in Garki, Abuja, with one manhole cover which is suspected to have been stolen.
During police investigation,he said, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of himself.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened section 319 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. (NAN)
