Court Adjourns Suit Challenging Appointment Of New Emir Of Zazzau

A suit filed by a Prince of Zazzau, Alhaji Bashir Aminu (Iyan Zazzau), challenging the appointment of Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as emir of Zazzau has been adjourned to October 27.

Justice Kabir Dabo of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Zaria, adjourned the suit to allow the prosecution to serve court papers on all parties in the suit.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Samuel Atum, standing in for Ustaz Yunus (SAN), told reporters they were challenging the process of the appointment of the emir.

Specifically, the plaintiff is seeking the following;

“A declaration that the plaintiff is still the emir of Zazzau and is entitled to all rights and privileges pertaining thereto;

“An order setting aside the purported appointment of the 10th defendant (Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli) as  the emir of Zazzau;

“An injunction restraining the first, second, third and fourth defendants from acting in the installation of the 10th defendant to the throne of the emir of Zazzau or presenting to the 10th defendant the staff of office until the final determination of the suit;

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants either by themselves, agents, privies, servants or through any person or persons howsoever from treating, presenting or dealing with or installing the 10th defendant as the emir of Zazzau;

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 10th defendant from parading, presenting or styling himself as the emir of Zazzau or from putting on or wearing any paraphernalia or insignia of the emir of Zazzau.”

The Next Edition reports that Bamalli was on October 7, announced as the new Emir of Zazzau.

He became the 19th Emir of Zazzau, succeeding the late Emir Shehu Idris, who passed on,  on September 20, after 45 years on the throne.
