Mr. Fredric Oladeinde, Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State, has said that all public transport buses/cabs and the BRT will maintain 60% loading capacity, the Abandoned Vehicles and Parks Monitoring Committee has been assigned to monitor operations of garages and parks for compliance, while police will continue to enforce the laws on violators.
Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday, Oladeinde, said the instruction was in furtherance to the directive issued by Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu.
He warned that any driver that acted beyond the regulated 60% loading capacity, would face the wrath of the law.
He said: “In compliance with the social distancing order as a way of preventing easy contact with corona deadly virus, all transport companies/operators are expected to sanitise their parks and garages regularly, while they must ensure that passengers are not more than two per line in a bus; no standing in any bus is allowed no matter how short the distance, violators of these guidelines will face the law.”

The commissioner, who was supported by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Oluseyi Whenu, at the briefing, explained that the same measures had been taken by the state government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus to the inland waterways to prevent water commuters from contacting the virus.
Oladeinde explained that a directive had been issued to the Lagos State Water Ways Authority and relevant stakeholders in water transportation business, including boat operators, to henceforth ensure that their boats and life jackets were thoroughly disinfected before embarking on any operation.
He explained that all passengers in water transportation would be compulsorily required to sanitise themselves by washing their hands with soap and water at the jetty before and after every trip.
Oladeinde further explained that all boat operators had been mandated to prioritise the safety and health of passengers that utilise waterways, including the use of temperature monitors by Terminal/Jetty operators to test the temperature level of each passenger before embarking on a trip.
