Chief of Air Staff Reopens Makurdi Runway for Flight Operations

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, has reopened the Makurdi runway for flight operations.

The Chief of Air Staff was in Makurdi, the Benue state capital to inspect the runway which was closed for two months due to safety reasons.

He commended the Air Officer Commanding and his management team for the proper rehabilitation of the airfield, saying it will lay to rest the speculation that the closure was politically motivated.

The Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command NAF, Makurdi, AVM Oladayo Amao, said the airfield was 80 percent completed for operations.

He noted that the remaining 20% will be completed around the Apron and taxi way as soon as the sealant was procured.

The Chief of Air Staff, who inspected the rehabilitated airfield, drainage system, paintings and markings particularly the base serene known as the prototype wireless alarm said the rehabilitation work would be duplicated in three other states.

Abubakar, after inspection flew to Agatu local government area of the state to meet with soldiers.
