Cabinet: Ortom Meets Stakeholders, Says Technocrats, Experts To Be Appointed

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom said he will appoint only technocrats and experts from various fields into his cabinet to help him deliver the dividends of democracy to his people this second tenure.

Ortom stated this when he addressed members of the People Democratic Party, PDP, at an enlarged meeting of the party in Government house Makurdi, the state capital.

He urged chairmen and officials of the party at the local government levels to liaise to produce proper and fit persons with requisite credentials and experience to form his cabinet.

Governor Ortom, who also appealed to members of the party to allow him appoint his commissioners, said it will enable him check on them periodically to put them on their toes to perform their functions.

Ortom, who urged Benue people to hold him responsible for their performance threatened he will sack any of them who fails to perform, saying that since there is no more godfather, he will not allow anyone to mess him up anymore.

Ortom said he will work with 15 commissioners; five from each of the three senatorial zones, 23 Special Advisers; one from each Local government and three Senior Special Assistants from each local government including one woman and one youth.

He therefore urged those that will be appointed to be mindful that it is a call to service and not an opportunity for self aggrandizement.

Ortom informed the party that he is working out measures to tackle challenges facing the state in he last one year saying “This tenure, we want to deliver on campaign promises. I do not want too much work but action,”.

He called for support, cooperation of the party and the people and much commitment from would-be appointees saying even if he is only able to implement 50 percent of the recommendations of the transition committee, Benue will be out of the woods.

Speaking, senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, (Zone C), Abba Moro said the meeting was apt as it will enable members make input into the governance process.

He urged member to eschew sentiments in their nomination and scrutinize and get the right people to move the state forward.

The PDP chairman in the state, John Ngbede thanked the governor for calling the meeting pledging total support to his administration. He urged party and LG members to send in their nominations in two weeks time.
