Following comments from across the nation that President Muhammadu Buhari bowed to internal and external pressure to release former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), and Convener of #RevoultionNow, Omoyele Sowore, from detention, the Presidential Support Committee (PSC) said that such was never the case.
PSC, in a statement made available to NEXT EDITION on Monday, said that President Buhari only demonstrated his constitutionally assigned role with the release of Sowore and Dasuki.
Faulting the claim, the committee in the statement issued by its Director of Communication and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, said it is the duty of the executive to execute order of the judiciary.
PSC said: “In a presidential system such as Nigeria is practising, the buck stops on the president’s table. It is his duty to safeguard the unity, peace, progress and the continuous existence of Nigeria, using the apparatus of state.
“Where an arm of government like the Judiciary gives an order or judgment, it is the duty of the executive, led by the president, to execute the order or judgments as soon as it is safe to do so.
“This constitutionally assigned role is what President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrated with the release of Omoyele Sowore and Retired Col Sambo Dasuki.

“Rather than applauding him, cynics went to town, musing and adducing all manner of theories. The latest antics of detractors to downplay the significance of the release of Sowore and Dasuki to score cheap political point is still the old antics of the opposition to undermine the Buhari administration.”
The action of the president in the release of the duo, the PSC said, had sealed the lips of the enemies of democracy in the country.
The President’s group said that Buhari had shamed anti-democratic elements in Nigeria by displaying his unflinching adherence to the rule of law with the release of Dasuki and Sowore, who were being held for corruption and treason-related crimes.
The PSC added that those hatching all manners of diversionary theories to explain Buhari’s magnanimity were merely playing the ostrich by trying to hide their heads in shame.
The PSC also berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for claiming that history would not be kind to the APC government because the destructive policies of the Buhari administration that had crippled over 40 million businesses, devalued the naira and deflated the economy.
