The National and State Assembly Election Tribunal in Abia State, Monday nullified the election of former Abia Governor, Orji Kalu as the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District.
Mr. Kalu had contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Despite the corruption charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the former governor not only contested and won the election but also emerged the chief whip of the Senate.
However, the tribunal sitting in Umuahia faulted INEC’s declaration of the former governor as the winner of the February 23 polls.
It, therefore, called for a re-run within 90 days as provided in the nation’s electoral law.
