National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was absent at the national caucus meeting of the party on Monday as a result of his involvement in activities arranged to mark his 66th birthday.

President Muahmmadu Buhari hosted the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with prominent members of the party present.

Tinubu was conspicuously absent.

However, speaking on a Raypower political programme on Tuesday, Tinubu’s spokesman, Tunde Rahman, explained that his principal was at a programme specially organised by some youths to honour him on the occasion of his birthday.

Tinubu will be 66 on Thursday.

“He will be 66 years old on Thursday and activities marking his birthday started on Monday.

“Some young ones organised a special programme to honour him on the occasion of his birthday and he had to attend. There was no way he could have attended the two occasions at the same time,” he said.

Asked how far Tinubu had gone about the assignment to reconcile aggrieved members of the APC, Rahman said it was still going on.

He added that he was, in fact, about putting together a report which he would submit to President Muhammadu Buhari on the assignment.
