The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has left the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
PDP is the leading opposition party.
Tambuwal made the announcement on Wednesday at a press conference in the Government House, Sokoto.
Hundreds of his supporters stormed the Government House to show solidarity.
The announcement came one day after he called on Nigerians to reject what he described as “prison-yard democracy.”
Before his announcement today, there have been speculations in the past weeks that he would leave the APC for the PDP.
