Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State says his challenger for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket is not a fit and proper person to take up the position.

He has also reiterated the fact that he is still in the race for the governorship ticket of the State in the 2019 elections.

Ambode who addressed a World Press Conference at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, on Sunday, further said that the weight of the law would be brought to bear on anybody who in any way attempts to disrupt the peace the state has enjoyed.

Making reference to his opponent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, he said: “Everybody knows that the person the party is promoting is not a fit and proper person to take up the position. Our party leaders have been misled to believe he is a better person than me. It is on record that he has once been arrested for carrying fake dollars and he spent some time in jail. He doesn’t have the competence to what they are positioning him to do. The records are also available at the Gbagada General Hospital, this is someone who has gone for rehabilitation before.”

He called on the party leadership to have a rethink in their preferred candidate insisting that “it was not about me but about the party.
I will not allow the party to fritter away the opportunity to continue governing in the state by fielding somebody the opposition will easily take out.”

He stated further that he remains a bona-fide member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said: “You can see I am wearing my APC shirt. I am not going anywhere.”

He called on the party leadership not to disenfranchise any member on Monday under the guise of not having membership card.

Brandishing his registration slip, he querried: “Do you mean as a sitting governor I will not be allowed to vote tomorrow because I don’t have a card?”

The governor warned those with any intentions of formenting trouble to beware as the state would not tolerate anything that will further increase the tensed environment in the state and the nation in general.

“Current political happenings in the state have caused unnecessary tension in Lagos. We have heard that some people are training thugs for tomorrow’s primary. We will not allow any destructive elements to disrupt the peace of the state. It has become imperative to put everyone on notice especially the Federal Government and security agencies to pay more than a passing interest in what is happening in Lagos,” Gov. Ambode says.

In response to a question posed by Mr. Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International Magazine, who asked him about the rift between him and his godfather, Senator Bola Tinubu, and what he would do if Monday’s primary does not favour him and whether he was ready to fight all the way, Ambode said; “There is no war here. If we say we are democrats, we must practice it to the end.”

He also denied that there was a rift between him and his godfather saying. “there is no rift. “
