A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked 20 lawmakers of the Cross River State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daily Trust reports.

The lawmakers had dumped the PDP alongside Governor Ben Ayade, who said he joined the ruling party to support President Muhammadu Buhari to build a greater nation.

Delivering judgement in a suit filed by the PDP, Justice Taiwo Taiwo ordered them to vacate their seats because they abandoned the party that sponsored them to power.

The development comes weeks after Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi, his deputy and some lawmakers in the state were sacked by the court over defection.
