The House of Representatives on Wednesday called for the resignation of the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, over his statement describing the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, as a “drowning man.”
Moshood made the statement while speaking on a Channels Television programme Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.
In a heated argument with the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom, Mr Terver Akase, Moshood said the police felt it should not “join issues with a drowning man,” in obvious reference to Ortom who complained that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had not lived up to his billing over the killings in Benue State.
However, debating the issue at its plenary session on Wednesday the House of Representatives considered the statement by Moshood as derogatory.
While it called for the resignation of the Force Public Relations Officer, the legislative house on the other hand called on Ibrahim Idris to apologise for the “seeming unwillingness” by the IGP to enforce the anti-open grazing law.
A member of the House of Representatives from Benue State, Mr. Mark Bilah, brought Moshood’s statement and the shortcoming of Ibrahim Idris for debate when he raised the motion titled “The need to address the derogatory remarks by Jimoh Moshood, Force PRO, against Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue State, and seeming unwillingness by the IGP to enforce the anti-open grazing law.”
