Narrating his escape from his attackers, Ikerave who was still in shock said the incident happened along Naka road adding that it was only the mercy of God that saved him as his Hilux vehicle was riddled with bullets.

The senatorial aspirant who disclosed that he is decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, after 23 years with party, explained that he was traveling to his community in Naka in Gwer West Local government area to perfect arrangements for the official decamping coming up on Sunday 6th of February, 2022, when he was attacked.

He said shortly after escaping the attack, he ran to soldiers along the road who swung into action but on getting there, the hoodlums had ran away.

He went further to report the incident to the police division in Naka town where the new commissioner of police was informed and he was ask to report Friday at the command headquarters in Makurdi.

He urged the police to not only go after the perpetrators but to also help bring their sponsors to book.

Asked if he suspects anyone to be behind the act, Chief Ikerave said it must be his political detractors who feel threatened by his recent support from the people to represent them at the Red chambers of the National Assembly come 2023.

According to him, it is the turn of Gwer – West local government, where he hails from, to produce the next senator since all other local governments in the zone have been represented.

He vowed that such attempt on his life, which he described as an act of cowardice, will not cow him to abandon his ambition to represent his people who have beckoned on him to represent them.

According to him, the present PDP led administration has been fraught with infrastructural deficit, maladministration, attacks and killings in the state and expressing the confidence that come 2023, the APC will salvage the state.
