Councilors from the councils mentioned had written petitions against the affected Council Chairmen and the Vice Chairmen.

According to the correspondence read to members by the Speaker, Mr Titus Uba, the request for the suspension was based on the advice of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Michael Gusa.

He said that the action was necessary to enable investigation into the allegations against the affected Chairmen and the two Vice chairmen.

A press statement made available to The Next Edition by the Special Adviser to Governor Ortom on Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua states that the action taken was in compliance with provisions of the Benue State Local Government Law.
