Fifteen residents, including the village head of Ungwan Babangida, have been abducted by suspected bandits in a midnight attack on Thursday in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The assailants, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked the village under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically at strategic points before whisking away their victims.
Among the abducted individuals are three women and nine men, including the community leader, Babangida Sojiji. Other victims include two laborers who had traveled from Jigawa State and Ikara Local Government Area for farming activities.
Aminu Khalid, the youth leader of Dokan Karji, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday. He condemned the growing wave of insecurity in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for military intervention to curb the activities of the bandits.
“Kauru communities need serious military actions against these bandits who have occupied many villages. Many breadwinners have been gruesomely killed,” Khalid stated.
The attack occurred just two days after bandits had kidnapped four farmers from the Libere community in the same local government area, raising concerns about the rising frequency of such incidents.
Khalid also praised the efforts of local vigilante groups, whose swift actions had thwarted previous kidnapping attempts in nearby villages.
Local authorities have called for increased efforts by the federal government and security operatives to address the growing threat posed by these criminals.
