Thirty-three persons have been killed by suspected bandits who on Friday evening invaded two villages in Batsari local Government area of Katsina State.

The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Sanusi Buba, who confirmed the incident said the bandits entered Tsauwa and Dankar villages at the time of prayer, around 6:30p.m and burnt several houses, animals and properties worth millions.

The Commissioner led a joint team of Police, accompanied by the men of ‘’Operation Puff Adda’’, Nigeria Army and newsmen to the two affected villages.

He expressed sadness over the situation, saying about 21 persons mostly elderly men, were confirmed dead in Tsauwa village.

The Nation quoted some members of Tsauwa village namely Salisu Lawal and Baba Dahiru, as saying about 23 persons were killed in Tsauwa, while about 10 persons were killed in neighboring Dankar villages.

The villagers appealed to Governor Aminu Bello Masari to quickly intervene and bring an end to the incessant attacks in the state for their peace of mind.

The Nation reported that when the CP and his entourage arrived, the people of Tsauwa village were seen burying beloved families members in tears.

The paper also reported that a number of houses were burnt in Tsauwa, while domestic animals like goats and cattle were not spared in the incident. Also foods and several other items were said to have been taken away by the bandits.

Dankar village was turned to a ghost town as several villagers have fled for safety in nearby towns to avoid further attacks, the paper said.
