The Chairman, Badagry Local Government area of Lagos State, Mr. Olusegun Onilude, on Monday laid the foundation of a N214 million three-storey administrative block at the council Secretariat.
Onilude said that the administrative blocks project was part of his campaign promises to the electorate.
He said that since the creation of the council 40 years ago, no administration had deemed it fit to build any block.
“When we took over the council years back, construction of the administrative blocks was so dear to my heart.
“I’m very happy today, because we are laying the foundation of the project.
“I remembered about three years ago when the former Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, visited the council, when we were about to construct some roads in Badagry.
“He looked round and said this council had not changed since he left the town.
“This statement touched me and it made me to remember my promise during the campaign.
“Although, the project was delayed, it is better late than never. Now, we want to commence the project and by God’s grace nothing will stop it.
“We have taken our time to plan properly and made provision for it so that when it begins, nothing will hinder it,” he said.
Onilude said most of the structures at the council Secretariat were outdated, adding that there was need for him to build a befitting edifice for the council.
“Most of the structures being used as the administrative blocks are aged compared to structures we found in other local governments.
“This is a dream fulfilled. This is part of the promises we made to our people during campaign, to uplift the structures of the council,” he said.
On 18 months duration for completion of the project, Onilude assured the people in the council area that his administration would meet up with the duration for completion of the project.
“We have reached agreement with the construction company on the financial aspect of the project.
“Our plans are solid and we don’t have fear of funding the project,” he said.
The Aholu of Ajido Kingdom, Oba Temitope Adamson, said the foundation of the administrative blocks was a thing of joy.

Adamson urged the chairman to continue with the good work, praying that God would give him wisdom and strength to complete the project.
He called on the chairman to assist in repairing some deplorable roads in the area.
Also, Mr Omotunde Yusuf, the Council Engineer, said the project would consist of three floors, which would solve the acute shortage of office spaces in the council.
Yusuf said the project was captured in the 2020 budget by the legislative arms of the council before laying of its foundation.
