It was truly a night of laughter, glitz, glamour and drama on Sunday, April 21, at the annual AY Live show which held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Though the show kicked off much later than the announced time, it certainly lived up to its billing as one of the best comedy shows in town.
Apart from the known comedy acts that thrilled the audience with rib cracking jokes, AY used the platform to introduce upcoming comedy acts and musicians such as Wazobia boys, Testimony Jaga, Papa, MOP, Bishop, Marvy, Roze, Melrough and others.
The comedy acts delivered absolute original contents and were very impressive.
There was also a quite impressive performance from Nigerian contortionist, Flexible Filia who got a standing ovation from the crowd.
The Kabusa oriental choir sparked up the tempo in the hall with their performance.
Musicians, Jaywon, African China and Sound Sultan thrilled the audience with wonderful songs that brought many to their feet. The living legend, 2Baba Idibia was also on hand to thrill the audience with his hit songs as usual.
Top comedians including Ajebutter, Whale Mouth, MC Shakara, Pencil, Funnybone, I Go Dye, Akpororo, Gordons, Kenny Blaq, Helen Paul and Larry J earned some resounding applause from the audience at every round of their performances.
Celebrities who were spotted at the event include Alex Ekubo, Princess, the Comedian, Mike Ezuronye, Joseph & Adaeze Yobo, Lilian Esoro, Angela Okorie, African China, Sound Sultan, Mc Lively, Eva Alordiah, Ik Ogbonna among others.
AY was also honoured by the presence of the incoming Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu who to the surprise of many, seemed really impressed and entertained by the show. The NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and controversial Senator, Dino Maleye were also in attendance.
For his set, the man of the moment AY Makun put on a drama that seemed to be a nod to the just concluded presidential elections. As with previous shows where he used actors in skits that had current events as the punch line, this year’s was no different.

He started out acting as an incorruptible Adams Oshiomhole who was all for the people in what could be interpreted as his years as the NLC chairman before he appeared to be lured into politics with money and the promise of fame.
Then came actors who represented the top contenders in the presidential race at the just concluded elections. In a drama that got people cracking up, he re-imagined what happened amongst the presidential candidates with exaggerated humour and acting.
The show however, was not without its near scandals. One of the female musicians came out in a form fitted dress that had people betting she would have a wardrobe malfunction on stage and they were not disappointed.
A couple of times, the breasts which were already half out of the dress popped out to expose the nipples to the chagrin of the performer and the embarrassment of the women in the audience. But trust the guys, they roared with laughter and excitement at the free show.
The show lasted well into the wee hours of the morning but everyone had a good time.
AY Live over the years has proven to be more than just a comedy show and evolved into a stage that brings together comedians, actors and musicians and gives a platform to rising stars to peddle their craft.
This year’s event was sponsored by lots of brands including Peak Milk, Maltina and a host of others.
The Red carpet was hosted by Ex-Bbnaija housemate, Alex Asogwa (Alex Unusual) while the Blue carpet which was sponsored by Peak Milk was hosted by Nollywood actress, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman and Ex-Bbnaija housemate, Tobi Bakre.
