The Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), has commenced training of 500 Benue workers.
The Director-General (DG), Mrs Cecilia Gayya, disclosed this on Wednesday, when he led other staff of the college on a courtesy visit to Governor Samuel Ortom in Government House, Makurdi.
Represented by the Head of Administration, Mr. Goodluck Audu, Gayya, who noted that ASCON was in Benue for a 5-day workshop for Senior Public Officers in the state, commended Ortom for approving the training of the 500 workers.
The DG who opined that infrastructural development without commiserate human capital development will lead to unsustainable outcomes stated that the training would equip the civil servants with relevant skills to discharge their duties effectively.
“If you do not train workers, do not blame them for not living up to their responsibilities. We must ensure we train and retrain them for effective performance.”

Responding, Governor Samuel Ortom who pledged that government would sustain the training of its workforce by ASCON said he would also make the training a yearly programme.
“There is the need to train workers to enable them add value to the civil service and government. The trainings will go a long to promote professionalism for the overall good of the society.”
The governor who said that human capital development was very important, stressing that training and building of capacities for civil servants will solve the problems of leakages and wastages.
He thanked ASCON for accepting to come all the way from Lagos to train the Benue civil servants which has reduced the burden of transportation and accommodation and urged participants you take advantage of the opportunity to better their skills.
