Some aggrieved youths have torched the house of the chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), in Benue State Mr. Abba Yaro.

An eyewitness account states that the house, located along Adom Gande street, Judges Quarters, Makurdi, was invaded early hours of Monday by the youths who destroyed the windows, air conditioners and cars belonging to the chairman.

A resident of the area who didn’t want to be named told our correspondent that the youths went on rampage to avenge the death of one of them who worked as a domestic staff in the chairman’s house.

According to him, trouble started  when youths in the area found the body of a  young man hanging on a tree.

“This morning we saw the body of one of the Chairman’s security guard on a tree and upon inquiry, it was learnt that he had been electrocuted while trying to cut down branch of tree that is tourching high tension wire.

“So the youths got angry and invaded the man’s house,  pulled down the gate and destroyed the house. They broke the windscreen of four cars and all the glass windows of his house,” the source said.

Narrating his side of the story, Mr. Abba Yaro said that he didn’t know anything until he was woken up by the noise of people and that upon enquiry, he was told that one of his security guards who tried to cut down a branch of tree touching high tension wire was electrocuted.

Yaro said, “When I asked the other security man, he told me that he warned the man against going to cut the branch of tree that is touching high tension wire and that the man said he knew how he would cut it, only for him to be electrocuted.

“We were in the process of sorting out things when youths came in their numbers, pulled down the gate and entered the house and destroyed it. You can all see all that were destroyed.”

The APC chairman thanked  Governor Samuel Ortom for his prompt visit and intervention which he said saved the life of his family members from attack.

Speaking during his visit to the chairman’s house, Gov. Ortom condemned the destruction caused in Yaro’s house and urged people to stop taking laws into their hands whenever anything goes wrong.

He said what the youths did was an act of lawlessness and urged them not to forget their pledges, during the recent summit, to comport themselves well and remain law abiding.
